5/6/2009 Bobby Scales

31 year old Bobby Scales makes his major league debut:  1-4, 2K

Bobby posted the finest season of his life in 2008 at Iowa (AAA).  Unfortunately by this time in his career he found himself a 30 year old playing in a league of 20 year olds.

The trip to the DL for Carlos Zambrano allowed the Cubs to bring up Scales, who got the start on Tuesday.  In his first game in “The Show” Scales recorded his first big league hit off of Giants ace Tim Lincecum who is 10 years younger than him.

When he is sent back down to make room for pitcher Randy Wells, Bobby will be able to thrill his young teammates with stories of hitting white balls for batting practice, and women with long legs and brains.

“I kind of wondered if today was going to come, but there was no doubt in my mind I could play,” Scales said. “No matter what happens the rest of the way, they can’t take it from me. I got it. I earned it. And I’m just fortunate to have it.” -Bobby Scales
